Oh yeah? Watch me.
As I was walking through the hallway after birthing my first breech baby in an hour and a half with no complications, I paused. What caught my attention was the voice behind the door, "...Mother's motivation and attitude was the reason this was possible. She has to be ready, willing, excited and committed." The voice was familiar. It was my obstetrician's. My heart skipped a beat when I realized he was talking about me. He was right. My attitude towards this birth was one of unfettered motivation and determination. Believing in yourself can be tough when people all around you try and put doubts in your head. Some even go as far as telling you that you are making a bad choice. But you can choose who you listen to. You do not have to receive words into your heart.
You can shield your mind and your baby from all the negativity and bravely chart your own course. With my homebirth breech many people told me I was being reckless. They were so far from wrong. I had seen my body do it twice already and very successfully. I knew my baby could do it. I had experienced breech birthing professionals by my side and an iron will. I said, "Oh yeah? Watch me."
Women, what we can accomplish in life when we believe in ourselves is unprecedented. Dream large. Ignore the static. Laugh at haters and doubters. Go get your goals.
